Beaches on Koh Rong island

Koh Rong boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Southeast Asia. With around 43 kilometers of beaches, you can find everything here - from bustling, lively spots to completely untouched, deserted bays. Here are eight of the best beaches you definitely shouldn't miss when visiting this island (and note, do not confuse them with the neighboring island of Koh Rong Sanloem!):

1. Long Set Beach (also known as 4K Beach)

With about 3-4 kilometers of dazzling white sand and clear water, this beach on the south-east coast of Koh Rong, just north-east of Koh Touch village, will quickly win every visitor's heart. It's about a 30-minute walk from the busy Koh Touch pier (or a short taxi ride), but offers much more space and tranquility. It is a great spot for relaxing, swimming and long walks along the shore, and home to Nest Beach Club with its Saturday beach party.

2. Sok San Beach (Long Beach)

This stunning beach stretches for more than 7 kilometers along the western coast of the island. It's famous for incredibly soft sand and fabulous sunsets that will take your breath away. The northern end is home to the traditional Sok San fishing village and beachfront eateries, while the middle and southern stretches offer peaceful, expansive white sands.

3. Lonely Beach

A true escape from civilization on the northern tip of the island. Lonely Beach is a perfect paradise for those seeking isolation, silence and lush nature. It is reached by boat or by road followed by a rough last stretch, and there is only one small resort. At night, you have a unique chance to observe an unforgettable phenomenon - bioluminescent plankton illuminating the dark water near the shore.

4. Coconut Beach

A picturesque bay with about 600 meters of white sand lined with coconut palms, a 10-minute walk from the fishing village of Daem Thkov and easily reached by boat from Koh Touch. The water is usually calm and clear, and a handful of guesthouses and resorts keep it much quieter than Koh Touch. An ideal place for a relaxed stay.

5. Palm Beach

As the name suggests, this beach in the northeast of Koh Rong is lined with dozens of mature palm trees. It offers incredibly photogenic settings, enchanting views of the private Song Saa island, and a very relaxed environment. It will be appreciated by travelers who want to relax and soak up the island vibe with a good book and a cocktail.

6. White Beach

At the far end of Koh Touch bay, about a 10-minute walk from the main pier, White Beach has soft white sand and clear water. The rocks at its end are good for snorkeling, and several bungalow resorts line the shore, so it is an easy escape from the busy village without any transport.

7. Police Beach

A small beach a short walk from Koh Touch village and the main pier. By day it is a quiet place for a swim; at night it becomes the island's best-known party beach, with DJs playing until late.

8. Nature Beach (Romdoul Beach)

A secluded bay on the east coast, reached by taxi boat from Koh Touch or on foot along the coast. It is known for its photogenic swings and wooden structures in the water and for its calm atmosphere, with only a few places to stay.

East Coast vs. West Coast Beaches: Which Side to Choose?

Koh Rong's beaches are divided between the sheltered eastern and southern bays facing the mainland and the open western coastline facing the Gulf of Thailand. Depending on wind direction and your travel style, each coast offers a distinct experience:

• East & South-East Coast (Koh Touch, Long Set, Pagoda, Coconut Beach): Directly connected to Sihanoukville by speed ferries, sheltered from the southwest monsoon winds (May–October), and offering calm, shallow turquoise water almost year-round.
• West Coast (Sok San / Long Beach, Royal Sands): Home to a continuous 7-kilometer ribbon of squeaky silica sand and the island's best sunsets over the open sea. Sea conditions are glass-calm from November to April, with occasional surf during the July–August monsoon.
• Northern Coast (Lonely Beach, Palm Beach, Prek Svay): Quiet, off-the-beaten-track bays looking toward Song Saa Private Island and the northern coral reefs, ideal for total peace and snorkeling.
