Visa for Cambodia and Koh Rong (2026)

Last fact-checked: September 2026. Entry rules can change at short notice, so always check the official sources before you travel.

Koh Rong is part of Cambodia, so the normal Cambodian entry rules apply and there is no separate permit for the island. Most visitors need a tourist visa, which is easy to get online or on arrival.

Who needs a visa

Citizens of most countries, including the EU, the UK, the USA, Australia and Russia, need a visa. Visa-free entry applies to some Asian countries:

  • 30 days: Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and the Maldives
  • 14 days: Brunei and Myanmar; China, Hong Kong and Macau as a temporary measure until 15 October 2026
  • 7 days: Thailand (shortened in 2025)

Tourist e-Visa

The simplest option. Apply online on the official website evisa.gov.kh a few days before you travel. The tourist e-Visa costs $36 ($30 visa fee plus $6 processing fee) and allows a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days. You need a passport photo and a scan of your passport page. Print the e-Visa and carry it with you. It is accepted at the international airports (Phnom Penh Techo, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville) and at some land borders, so check your entry point. Beware of look-alike websites that charge much more.

Visa on arrival

A tourist visa on arrival costs $30 and allows a stay of up to 30 days. It is issued at the international airports, including Sihanouk International Airport near the Koh Rong ferries, and at the main land borders. Bring clean US dollar notes and a passport photo just in case.

e-Arrival card

Since January 2025 all air travelers must fill in the free Cambodia e-Arrival card (CeA) at arrival.gov.kh within 7 days before arrival. It replaces the paper arrival and customs forms, but it is not a visa. If you arrive by land, check the current requirements for your border crossing.

Passport and longer stays

  • Passport: Valid for at least 6 months on arrival, with at least one blank page.
  • Extension: A tourist visa can usually be extended once by 30 days, most easily through an agency in Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh.
  • Overstay: Overstaying is fined for every extra day, so keep an eye on your dates.
